   I actually don't have THIS album, but another of the same two years, The tracks are all the same, only this cd has way more than my vinyl version. At any rate, Jimmie Lunceford and his orchestra have smooth class that I have not really heard from many other bands of this era. It's big band without all the fuss of a lot of brass/5(6).

   While European labels (most notably Classics and Masters of Jazz) reissue every Jimmie Lunceford recording, its domestic counterpart as usual only gives consumers best-of collections. This CD is actually quite good, consisting of highlights from Lunceford's first year with Decca and serving as a fine introduction to his orchestra's music.    Someone hurry up and reissue this so it's available again! While missing Jimmie Lunceford's very earliest records ('s "Chickasaw Stomp" and "Memphis Rag" with the Chickasaw Syncopators, the first of which has the same gag "sermon" routine heard on "In Dat Mornin''" here), it kicks off with the "Jimmie Lunceford and the Chickasaw Syncopators" sides from and then cuts three years /5(2).
